Mshiri Primary School: The Reality Today
Mshiri Primary School in Mshiri Village, Kilimanjaro, Tanzania
Mshiri Primary School sits at the heart of the community we serve in Mshiri Village—a place where many of our team members and their families live. For the children in this village, school is more than education. It represents opportunity, stability, and hope for the future.
This is also the same school where my husband, Winford, Co-Director of Winrica Adventures & Dealers of Hope Foundation Tanzania, grew up and attended as a child—making this work deeply personal to our family and the community we are part of.
Right now, the conditions of the school make learning incredibly difficult.
Out of all the classrooms, only two are currently safe enough to be used. The remaining rooms have black mold, deteriorating walls, and ceilings that are beginning to collapse. There is no electricity in the school, and very limited access to learning materials or curriculum for the students.
The school serves children from kindergarten through grade seven.

The kitchen, where meals are prepared for the children, is dark and in poor condition. The students are fed porridge twice a day—often the only food many of them will have. While it helps ease hunger, it does not provide the nutrition needed for growing children to learn and thrive.
This is the current reality.

But it is not where the story ends.
In September, through Climb for Hope, volunteers will travel to Tanzania to begin rebuilding and restoring Mshiri Primary School. Before they arrive, members of the local village will begin the demolition process—working together to prepare the space for transformation.
This project is not just about repairing buildings. It is about creating a safe, healthy, and supportive environment where children can learn, grow, and build a future beyond their current circumstances.
We are currently in the fundraising phase to make this possible.
Thank you to everyone who is helping turn this vision into reality.
The children of Mshiri Primary School performed a song for us during our visit to assess what work needs to be done.
